Composite Image from the August 21 Solar Eclipse

We received 6 drawings from eclipse watchers who participated in our Corona Composite Image project.   Before the invention of photography, scientists would draw the corona during an eclipse, and then combine their drawings to create a final image.  Like those past scientists, each of our participants saw the eclipse a little differently.  The black and white drawings are the originals.  We’ve colorized them in the composite to help the individual layers stand out from each other.
